Welcome to "A Taste of South Greenland"!
Allow us to take you on a mouth-watering tour of South Greenland, where you will discover unique foods and ingredients that are bound to inspire great culinary
experiences.
Our region's relatively mild subarctic climate offers excellent growing conditions for agriculture and raising farm animals. So it is here that you will
find proud sheep farming traditions and a thriving sector that annually produces some 25,000 lambs for the Greenlandic domestic market.
Farmers here grow crops like potatoes and fresh produce like iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. The area also has a reindeer farm that can deliver meat to
the dinner table, and the surrounding seas provide a bountiful supply of high-quality fish and succulent crabs.
At our marketplaces in Narsaq, Nanortalik and Qaqortoq, fishermen and hunters sell the catch of the day, including seal meat, whale meat and wildfowl.
In addition, there are a wide range of niche products like honey, homemade jams, gourmet sea salt, herbs and much more.
When it comes to top-quality Greenlandic ingredients, South Greenland has a lot to offer.
So it should come as no surprise that we work closely with local companies and that the INUILI College of Food Sciences focuses on
creating new products and continuously enhancing our expertise in the area of food preparation.
After all, we would like to make South Greenland into the country's breadbasket!
On top of that, we'd like to share our outstanding food with the rest of the Greenlandic population, with visitors to our region, and with others.
Nothing quite matches sitting down to a beautifully set table, experiencing the quality of our ingredients, and sinking your teeth into "A Taste of South Greenland"!
Bon appétit!
